Brazilian Jiujitsu Adult & Youth programs
Brazilian Jiujitsu is one of today’s fastest growing martial art sports, in competition and hobbyist training.
Engaging in BJJ (Brazilian JiuJitsu) practice has made a big difference for many of our students physically and mentally in a positive way!

TrickyBJJ Academy
We specialize in Gi & NoGi BJJ
Our Adult Program runs classes; Monday (GI), Wednesday (GI), Friday (NoGi) 630pm - 740pm. Saturday Open Roll 11am - 1pm, and Sunday Wrestling at 11am, followed by Open Rolls 1230 - 130pm.
YouthBJJ Program is available; our program operates on a monthly agenda, for ages 7 - 13, beginners welcome. Our program runs on Wednesdays at 540pm - 630pm & Sundays at 10am - 11am.
Family Class, a chance to train and roll with your youth on the mats, every Saturday at 1015am - 11am.

Kyle Reid
Head Coach
TrickyBJJ Academy was just a dream turned reality for our head coach BJJ Black Belt Kyle. He started training NoGi grappling in 2011 at a local martial arts gym in Owen Sound, Ontario.
In 2013, he changed martial art directions focusing on Brazilian JiuJitsu and began training at OpenMatMMA Academy in Toronto, Ontario.
Under Professor Elliott Bayev, a 3rd degree black belt under Professor Shawn Williams (Renzo Nashville, USA) a 4th degree black belt under Professor Renzo Gracie 6th degree Black Belt and UFC veteran (Renzo Gracie Academy NYC, USA)
Coach Kyle has been training over a decade frequently at OpenMatMMA HQ, learning modern Brazilian jiu-jitsu and sport competition techniques.
Coach Kyle started teaching in 2015 at Blue Crane Martial Arts (Owen Sound, Ont.) as a blue belt taking over the Grappling program there building confidence in teaching and spreading his passion for BJJ.
In 2016, Coach Kyle opened TrickyBJJ Academy with the OpenMatMMA (Toronto) affiliation with the guidance and mentorship from Professor Elliott Bayev.
In May 2022, Coach Kyle with Coach Jacob aide put on several self defence & modern Gracie Brazilian Jiujitsu workshops on for our Owen Sound City Hall Staff Wellness Day at the Bayshore Community Centre.
Summer 2023, Coach Kyle was hired by the local Métis chapter, to host a series of self defence & modern Brazilian Jiujitsu workshops for their employees.

Community Givebacks:
March 2024: Hosted a Fundraiser Workshop for OSAS (Owen Sound Animal Shelter) for their 25th year of service, raising $300 for the shelter.
February 2024: Members of TrickyBJJ Academy led by Coach Jacob, participated in the Pushforbetter push-up challenge by the CMHA and raised $390 dollars locally and completed 10,000+ pushups for the challenge.
Earth Day 2023; TrickyBJJ Academy organized a team community cleanup, where 9 members of the academy, cleaned up the river district of Owen Sound, amounting 6 full bags of garbage off the streets and green space around the community.
TrickyBJJ Academy donates annually to our local animal shelter by hosting yearly Roll4Paws events at the academy. (2019, 2020, 2021)
In 2019 Coach Kyle, hosted a series of self defence workshops for our local Grey Bruce Reach Program for young adults with disabilities.
